After nearly 408,000 fleet total flying hours, and more than 30 years of service, the last No. 75 Squadron Classic Hornet aircraft landed at RAAF Base Williamtown, New South Wales on 4 December 2021.

The Commanding Officer of No. 75 SQN Wing Commander Leon Cossins, conducted the final flight. Originally planned to be part of the eight aircraft transit completed on Tuesday, 30 November, A21-117 – the Commanding Officer’s assigned jet on the day - experienced technical issues on last-minute checks and could not launch with the other seven aircraft. Since their arrival in 1985, the Classic Hornets have made an extraordinary contribution to Australia’s air power, including in theatres of operations such as Operations Slipper, Falconer and Okra.

The F/A-18A/B Hornet fleet will transition to the advanced lethality, survivability, and supportability delivered by the fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighter.

This model from Model Master represents a F/A-18B A21-117 of the RAAF flown by 75 Squadron.
